You may remember DAT from my work with them in Ecuador last summer. Thanks again to all who helped us work with the communities there and bring 9 pieces of original theatre to NYC.

Since 2006, DAT has traveled with over 100 theatre artists to Zimbabwe and Ecuador. Using theatre games and techniques, they have taught acting, playwriting, and overall self esteem in their Empowerment Workshops in over sixteen uniquely diverse communities. While in the communities, they also put their skills to work in practical ways through service projects. In the summer of 2009, DAT artists spent their time building a community center in the Andes, repairing Solar Panels and building dry bathrooms in the Amazon, planting trees in the Galapagos and brought home 9 original plays performed in New York City last July. Voices From Louisiana will embark on a similar journey. DAT will travel to 6 communities and provide free Empowerment Workshops to up to 12 schools. While teaching, they hope to engage with the community through a local service project, 16 pairs of hands willing to do good, as well as collaborate with local arts organizations.
